You don't have to be the owner, only at least a partner. You can also buy Venues, and upgrade them. You are allowed to collect on the funds
generated by these properties (this is the only way outside of oppurtunities that your Sim's can make money outside their career track)
More Fun: Homemade - Your sims must only eat cooked dishes(no quick meals), and they can only cook a dish if they have the required ingredients
in the refrigerator. In addition, they must harvest all produce and fish all fish on their own(it's allowed to harvest from community lots).
You may purchase meat, eggs, etc(and milk, rice, etc if you're using a better ingrediants mod) from the store.

Wow, sounds like a busy first role - 4 kids, buying 3 businesses, and growing your own food! I like the style of the first chapter so far, Jordan sounds like she's going to be fun. :)
